Fruit. The word itself conjures up mouthwatering memories of crunchy apples, luscious strawberries, sweet bananas, succulent melons and juicy pineapples, to which we can add the splendid tropical fruits on our supermarket shelves. They are one of nature’s most wonderful gifts but providing us with a healthy source of food is not the reason that plants produce such delicious fruits. It is therefore quite legitimate to ask what fruits are, and why they exist. As will be revealed, the true nature of fruits is concealed in what is buried in their core: their seeds. The key role that both play in the survival of each species explains the manifold strategies and ruses that plants have developed for the dispersal of their seeds. Whether these involve wind, water, humans, animals or the plant’s own explosive triggers, they are reflected in the many colours, shapes and sizes of the fruits that protect the seeds and in the extraordinary way that some fruits have adapted to the animals that disperse their seeds, and the animals to the fruits they relish. In this pioneering collaboration, visual artist Rob Kesseler and seed morphologist Wolfgang Stuppy use scanning electronmicroscopy to obtain astonishing images of a variety of fruits and the seeds they protect. Razor-sharp cross-sections reveal intricate interiors, nuts and other examples of botanical architecture and reproductive ingenuity. The black and white microscope images have been sumptuously coloured by Rob Kesseler highlighting the structure and functioning of the minuscule fruit and seeds some almost invisible to the naked eye and in so doing creating a work of art. Larger fruits, flowers and seeds have been especially photographed. The formation, development and demise of the fruits are described their vital role in the preservation of the biodiversity of our planet explained. Fruits are the keepers of the precious seeds that ensure our future; some are edible, others inedible and many, quite simply, incredible.
The Dutch dune coast has to be maintained in order to keep the inland safe. This is done by adding sand to the system and increasing foredune sediment volume. These nourishments have significant effects on natural values in the dunes. This report further investigates the effect of nourishments on foredune sediment volume. New methods are developed to automate the use of coastal height data to calculate volume developments. The best number of trend lines is added to the developments, showing breaks in trend. These breaks in trend visualize the year of the nourishment. This research concludes with a case study to see whether nourishments upstream have effect on the volume development of the Groote Keeten location. There is no effect.
Microbial control of insect pest of crops using entomopathogens is pest management strategy. Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t) has a great potential for this purpose. The focus of the present study was to determine the individual and combine effect of different insecticides such as Saraca indica,as a botanical insecticide, Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t), and chemical insecticide against larvae and adults of Tribolium castaneum and results were analyzed by SPSS probit analysis, LC50 was noted for all these insecticides and results were compared with each other. Study was conducted on the enhancement of pathogenicity of Bacillus thuringiensis by 1% sodium citrate and different insecticides such as Bifenthrin+Cypermethrin, Leaves of Saraca indica will also be screened as grain protactant against Tribolium castaneum. Strain of Bacillus thuringiensis SD1 was cultured to use as a toxic agent. Biotoxicity assays were performed to check the mortality rate of Tribolium castaneum which damage the food grains and have become a worldwide problem.
Weeds continue to be an important constraint in crop production. Despite the good efforts made in research and extension in the field of weed science, the farmers continue to experience heavy losses in crop yield due to weed interference. The crop loss estimates are many and often confusing and misleading. A conservative estimate of about 10% loss would amount to a loss of about 25 mt of food grains, currently valued at approximately USD 13 billion. Losses of similar magnitude may occur in plantation crops, fruits, vegetables, grass lands, forestry and aquatic environment. The total economic losses will be much higher, if indirect effect of weeds on health, loss of biodiversity, nutrient depletion, grain quality etc is taken into consideration. With considering the above points, should take steps to control weeds proper and on timely to prevent the loss of productivity.

The income from off-farm activity helps farm households to smooth their consumption, to undertake investment on their farm to boost farm production and to diversify their livelihood. This book tried to investigate the effect of off farm income on farm production and the determinants of off farm activity participation of rural households. The study mainly employed Tobit and Logit model to investigate the issue. Accordingly, the analysis revealed the positive effect of off farm income on farm production. Moreover, the determinants of off farm activity participation were also identified. Sustainable rural development is the focus of government policy in developing countries. Thus, the output of the study is expected to be used as a reference among researchers, stakeholders and policy makers to bring sustainable rural development.
In this literature review, past research on the effects of music on consumer attitudes will be analyzed. More specifically, the effects of music in television commercials will be examined. Music influences consumer attitudes through many ways, but mostly the effect is subconscious. The main finding of this work is that the influence of music in TV commercials is greatest when there is low cognitive involvement and high affective involvement, since music played in commercials is usually in the background and not the main focus of the advertisement. Furthermore, other factors such as mood, musical congruity, attention, memory and musical structure elements also play a key role on the effect of music in the formation of consumer attitudes.

Determination of hydrodynamic parameters for some widely used mesh screen structures for the range of flow rates, using experimentally obtained correlation for pressure drop and to investigate the effect of charge pressure on these hydrodynamic parameters. Performance effect of different regenerator on a pulse tube refrigerator system was studied using the parameters derived for four mesh screens.

This research was conducted with the specific objectives to assess the information needs of the farm women regarding fruits and vegetables processing and preservation, to develop and standardize media on need based messages on fruits and vegetables processing and preservation to study the impact of media on knowledge and attitude of farm women.The study revealed that selected messages were pickle making, chutney, murabba,squashes and drying of fruits and vegetables. Standard procedure for development of media were followed. The effectiveness of printed manual was assessed through several parameters. Overall weighted mean scores revealed that accuracy, coverage, objectivity, writing style, content presentation, illustration and compatibility was perceived to be high for all the messages. Effectiveness of Compact Disc (CD) in terms of audio quality, video quality, presentation of message, content importance and suitability and text was rated as high. The content validity ratio for all the attributes of CD and printed manual was found to be significant (as per Lawshe, 1975). Inter consistency reliability for CD and printed manual was found to be statistically significant at 5% level.
