Through the use of data collected from case studies, this book presents data on the Revised Primary Curriculum utilized in the Grade One Classrooms of two schools in Jamaica. The purpose of the study was to examine the Use and Concerns about the RPC by grade one teachers. The study was conducted through the use of the dimensions of the Concerns Based Adoption Model. The data presented in this book represents findings from an aspect of the author's PhD dissertation. Findings from 13 weeks of classroom observations of two teachers and interviews with the principals of each school are presented to provide the reader with a description of how the teachers utilized the RPC to provide experiences for their learners.
On a secluded hillside in Jamaica lies Firefly, Noel Coward’s peaceful retreat. Here, between sundowners and sunsets, brandies and cigarettes, the seventy-one-year-old Coward whiles away his days – a comforting, frustrating pattern of unwanted breakfasts, reluctant walks, graceless dips in the pool – in the company of his manservant Patrice. Both of them dream of a London that is long-gone or imagined: Noel’s peopled with glamorous friends – Redgrave, Olivier, O’Toole – and Patrice’s a picture-postcard vision of elegance and opportunity. Set over a series of summer days in the early 1970s, Firefly flits through Coward’s dreams and memories, his successes and regrets, against a sultry, seductive backdrop of blue skies and glistening water. 'A delightful read' Ian McKellen
This work constitutes a study of the system encoding tense, mood and aspect (TMA) in the creole languages spoken in Haiti, Jamaica and the islands of Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire. The research shows how the TMA system of Haitian, Jamaican and Papiamento has been formed and hypothesizes that creole formation involves several degrees of input from both superstrate and substrate languages, in a process guided by language universals. Furthermore, it argues that not all aspects of the TMA systems are simply derived from the source languages but result from the interaction between language acquisition and creole formation. It is hoped that this work contributes to our general understanding of creole development.
This heavily illustrated guide to reggae is a colourful, herbally endowed and sunsplashed history of one of the worlds most popular musical styles. Reggae was born in 1960s Jamaica, a potent mix of such indigenous genres as ska and rocksteady plus R&B, jazz and traditional African rhythms. The Encyclopedia of Reggae focuses on the musics golden age, from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s heyday of dancehall and features more than 500 images, including rare album art and ephemera. Written by one of the foremost experts on the subject, this amazing resource profiles more than 200 key performers, impresarios and producers from reggaes history.
In the last twenty years, the work was done on the different problems related to the Qualitative Theory of differential equations. But during the last few years, the interest surrounded around the well-known Hilbert’s Sixteenth Problem which he posed at Paris Conference of International Congress of Mathematicians in 1900, together with other twenty-two problems . In this book we are mainly concerned in the second part of Hilbert’s sixteenth Problem, which poses the question of maximal number and relative position of limit cycles of the polynomial system of the form: (A) in which P and Q are polynomials in x and y. We write the system A in the form of (B) Where , and , are homogeneous quadratic and cubic polynomials in x and y. Chapter No. 1 comprises the basic concepts for general theory of limit cycles and Hilbert’s Sixteenth Problem. Chapter No. 2 contains an Algorithm for determining so called focal basis. This can be implemented on the computer to get the estimate for the number of small-amplitude limit cycles. Chapter No. 3 deals with some classes of system (B) with several small-amplitude limit cycles.
The study sought to examine the knowledge, attitudes and practices of male university students, in relation to their sexual and reproductive health. A sample of 400 men (between the ages of 18 to 45) from a population of 693 males at the University of West Indies (Mona Campus, Jamaica) was selected randomly, however only 273 were retained in the final sample. The study utilised quantitative and qualitative data derived from surveys and focus group interviews respectively. Among the major findings, a large proportion of men in the sample (40%) highlighted that they gained information about sexual and reproductive health from the mass media. Younger men in the 18 to 25 age group (40%) also highlighted that HIV/AIDS was the health problem that they had the greatest concern. However, older men (26 to 45 years), compared to younger men, reported that they discussed issues of sexual and reproductive health with their sexual partners. Majority of men also cited that they make regular visits to health facilities to receive health examinations. In relation to safe sex practices, condom use was highlighted as the most popular family planning method among men (44%)...
Fuzzy Multi-objective Multi-index Transportation Problem In this book, some realistic multi-objective and multi-index transportation models are formulated and solved by using fuzzy programming technique. This study is divided in to six chapters introduction, fuzzy programming technique to solve multi-objective transportation problem ,an approach to fuzzy multi-objective transportation problem with interval cost,a fuzzy approach to solve multi-objective capacitated transportation problem,an additive fuzzy multiple goal programming model for the unbalanced transportation problem, fuzzy multi-objective multi-index transportation problem.
Water logging is a common problem in rainy season in Bangladesh. Trouble of the People knows no bound in this time. It is the overall situation in my country at a particular period. But in my study area people face the problem of water logging in whole year. They are suffering highly and try to cope with the adverse situation.
