Over the past few decades there has been great interest in exploring alternatives to conventional separation methods due to their high cost and energy requirements. Membranes offer a potentially attractive alternative as they potentially address both of these points. The overarching theme of this work is to design nanocomposite membranes for processes where existing separation schemes are inadequate. This book focuses on three challenges: 1) designing organic-inorganic hybrid membranes for reverse-selective removal of alkanes from light gases, 2) defect-free inorganic nanocomposite membranes that have uniform pores, and 3) organic-inorganic hybrid membranes and photocatalytic membranes for minimizing protein fouling in microfiltration applications. Also, the author presents the basic membrane theories for the readers who are not familiar with membrane.
The use of polymeric nanocomposites (PNCs) as matrix in fabric reinforced composites leads to a novel concept of fabric reinforced nanocomposite-matrix composite (FRNC). This book explains the development of polyetherimide (PEI)/nanoclay nanocomposites by specially developed vibration casting method. These nanocomposites are fabricated with varying content of nanoclay in PEI. It further explains the development of FRNC using compression moulding technology. FRNC is developed by reinforcing E-glass fabric in nanocomposite matrix. The nanocomposite with optimum mechanical, thermal and dielectric properties along with the least transmission loss and reflection loss is chosen as matrix for FRNC. The mechanical properties, thermal properties and electromagnetic transparency of the FRNC are found to be excellent. The structure-property relationship and various mechanisms involved are also discussed. FRNC has immense potential to be used for specialized applications in aerospace, defence, automotives, pressure vessels, etc.

The present study presents an overview of the changing state of the forests and explores ?hypotheses regarding the causes of change in the forest cover and its quality. Forest Strategy is inadequate to cope with all the ?diverse demands that India faces in the sector. India needs a balance of its three policy ?orientations — production forestry, afforestation, and protection/regeneration — to have ?an effective forest strategy, in addition to an enabling environment that promotes research ?and extension and private sector participation. Support for production forestry does not ?imply agreement with the essential features of industrial forestry, like replacement of ?natural forests with monoculture. It merely implies incorporation of a production oriented ?approach.?
The Energy Charter Treaty is the first binding multilateral agreement covering the promotion and protection of foreign investment. Energy Charter Treaty applies only to economic activities in the energy sector. This thesis focuses on uniqueness of the Energy Charter Treaty’s investment regime in investor-state disputes. The thesis provides an overview from an international law perspective of such important features of the Energy Charter Treaty as the provisional application of the treaty, the ‘denial of benefits’ clause and the definition of investment. The thesis also analyzes Energy Charter Treaty arbitration cases in order to find whether there exists a consistent practice on crucial jurisdictional questions. An extensive overview was provided regarding Yukos v Russian Federation, Kardassopoulos v. Georgia and Plama v. Bulgaria cases.
